This is a dark golden bitter ale from Twisted Oak Brewery in Somerset. It has a fresh aroma of hops with malt.

The taste has a malt sweetness balanced with fairly strong hop bitterness, with a lasting hop bitter aftertaste.
Another interesting ale from this Somerset microbrewery.

This is a golden ale with the aroma of a German Weiss bier. It’s taste starts clean and sharp with Weiss bier notes and a strong citrus bitter finish and a hint of the spice found in Belgian White beer.

A good ale if you favour some of the newer IPAs based on American hop varieties that are on offer. It also has a strong reminder of German wheat beers both in the aroma and taste. Another good offering from this small Somerset Brewer based at Wrington on the Mendips.

Twisted Oak Brewery – Old Barn

Twisted Oak Brewery – Old Barn Ruby Ale 4.5%

Twisted Oak Brewery – Old Barn

Twisted Oak Brewery is a small craft micro-brewery in Wrington Somerset run by Keith and Deb Hayles, hand crafting their 3 standard ales and some specials.

Old Barn is a chestnut ruby ale with a pleasant malt and rich fruit aroma. It has a good toasted malty start leading into a strong hop bitterness, lasting into the aftertaste.

My first sample of this ale was served on draft at an excellent, slightly cool temperature, not excessively chilled, so it really gave up its aroma notes.

Based on this offering, Twisted Oak ales are clearly a good addition to our local brewers around the Mendips, whilst making Wrington another 2 brewery Somerset location after Wiveliscombe. I look forward to trying their other core beers Fallen Tree and Spun Gold.
