This ale was traditionally from Newcastle and became known as ‘Newkie Brown’. It is a dark chestnut ale with a fruity prune and toffee aroma. It has a fruity taste with toasted notes.

This is an iconic beer from the 1960s, in clear pint bottles.
Originally brewed by Newcastle Breweries in 1927. It transferred through merger to Scottish and Newcastle, who made this ale nationally popular, particular with students in the northern universities.
In 2004 the Newcastle brewery was closed and production was moved to The Federation Brewery in Gateshead. The ale is now produced by the Heineken Group at their John Smith’s Tadcaster Brewery in Yorkshire.
